B10 3.3 oil consumption

Anyone had any problems with this. Mine has been using 1 litre every 300 miles!! Sytner said Alpina know about this problem with the 3.3 and recommend changing the oil to Castrol TWS Motorsport. If anyone has any more info, I'd appreciate it.

Seems excessive, my M3 uses approx 1L per 1200 miles.
I take it the std oil is too thin, if they recommend a change?

They said the TWS is M3 racing oil - wouldn't that be thinner?
Presently it uses 00/30.

As far as I know the 00/xx is the thinest oil you can get.

Have you been using this oil without excesive comsuption or this has just happened since last oil change ?

I have never heard of this issue before and 1 liter oil per 300mls is EXCESSIVE as in faulty engine IMHO... Get the car checked at a reputable Alpina specialist...

I stick with Castrol RS 10W-60 for my cars.

00/30 is the standard BMW synthetic oil I think.
The car has done 28,000 miles and its been using oil since I bought it 6 weeks ago. Obviously its only come to light with monitoring over the weeks.
If anyone has any Alpina Germany E-mail contacts, I'd be interested to hear their side of the story.

Have a look to the official alpina homepage http://www.alpina.de (also in english present, press the english button), there you will find a e-mail adress. I know, that alpina use the Castrol 0W/30 since the beginning of the production of the 3,3l engine. And they used the same oil at my last inspection. And i was wondering, why the engine at higher RPM make some new noises i never heard before (like a chain is rubbing somewhere). They told me that this is normal, but for me it isn´t. The engine gets also very soon warm and hold it´s temperatures at 105 °C (before it was about 95 °C until 100 °C). I only prever a oil like the Castrol 0W 60 which is thicker (esspecially on V8 engines !!!). I changed the oil back to 0W 60 and from now on the problems are past. And the engine never loss some oil until today (every 5000 droven km 1/4 litre and this is really a normal consumption). The M3 and the M5 need more oil on this milage, but i think there is something wrong with your engine. 1 litre on 300 miles is just to much.....

With best regards,

Tobi

I think Castrol RS can't be used anymore, it's out of production. I use TWS with under 0,4 l oil used over 13000 km with the M3.

Castrol RS is still in production. Castrol TWS (btw Tobi, you should sue Castrol for using your name ) is made especially for the E39 M5 and the E46 M3 according to Castrols german website.
