B10 BT Suspension Sits Low

I find that the rear suspension on my 1991 B10 buturbo sits very low and the ride is very stiff. The suspension travel is very short and it feels like there is no travel or dampening.

I think it is partly to do with failed SLS accumulators (which I plan to replace) but also inherently the way the suspension is designed. Even the fronts seem like there is no travel.

I'm considering installing springs from a E34 M5, has anyone tried this? Also, is there a difference between M5 springs and "M-Tech" springs, the part numbers are different.

Here is a picture of the suspension even after the SLS is pumped up. Its seems lower than other biturbos I've seen.

There's definitely something amiss there. My BT SLS has failed with a leaking pipe and it's currently sitting about the same place!

Do you find poor steering response if you have problems with SLS? They are connected, correct?

Yes, the SLS is powered by the power steering pump. I only notice a problem with the steering when the car has been sitting for a long time (over one month).

Note: I sold my BiTurbo last year.

Quattoboy, my BT was like that even after I replaced new accumulators, new SLS hoses and accumulator hoses. I always felt the rear suspension was a bit harsh but put it down to the high performance side nature of its intended design. This was back in the days before active suspension and magnetorheological struts.

Hi Victor:

Good to hear from you. That is what I recall you mentioning before when you did yours. I'm seriously considering swapping the springs out for M5 or M-Tech spec ones and keeping the originals so I can return it to original spec.

Any new Alpinas or BMWs in the near future for you?
