The B5 BiTurbo is supposed to look very aggressive - especially when it has the new more aggressive 2010 design Classic wheels.

It is rumoured the actual launchcar for Goodwood will be in white. Quite rare for Alpina not to launch a car in Alpinablau...

Very nice car - and for me it will be also very exciting, because until now M-cars and Alpina-cars were always different concepts:

E28M5 na vs E28 Alpina B7 Turbo and B7S Turbo

E34M5 na vs E34 Alpina B10 BiTurbo

E39M5 5,0L na vs E39 Alpina B10V8 4,6L na and B10V8S 4,8L na

E60M5 V10 na vs E60 Alpina B5 Biturbo V8

now:

F10M5 4,4L V8 Biturbo vs F10 Alpina B5 4,4L (?) V8 Biturbo

so which one will be the better one?

...
Unless I'm mistaken, the E60 Alpina B5 never had a biturbo engine, but had a supercharged V8 instead.

Yes, when I spoke to Alpina in Geneva, they confirmed that M Division and Alpina have driven each other's prototypes and that the nature of the beasts are quite different even though on paper they may have moved closer (i.e. engine spec).

And here are some pictures:

Few things:
-why only 507PS? Why not 555 or at least the same as the X5M? The fun part is that some tuner will probably tune this engine and will bring it to 600 HP or so... :)
-why doesn't it have the new sports shifter? I mean that stupid joystick is found on most BMWs. I hope they can let you use the new lever they have, as it looks more 2010 and less 2005.
-as it appears, no leather dash? That's a bummer on this car in my mind. It should differentiate itself from a 520d.
-I think the press release color is Mineral Weiss, not Alpine White. I don't see a yellowish hue.

Other than that, I have yet to think of something else...
Here's what Autocar wrote today:
"
This is Alpina's new B5 Biturbo, which has been given its public debut at Goodwood's Moving Motor Show.
The B5 uses a tuned version of BMW's 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 powerplant, producing 500bhp and 516 lb ft of torque. That's enough, claims Alpina, for a 0-62mph time of 4.7sec and a top speed of 191mph.
Alpina often shies away from using the same powerplants as M division models, but the B5 will go head to head with the forthcoming M5 on engine choice. Its transmission will be different, though; the B5 uses a modified version of ZF's eight-speed automatic gearbox, whereas the M5 is widely tipped to use a dual-clutch unit.
Alpina claims the B5 offers class-leading fuel economy and CO2 emissions, at 26.1mpg (combined) and 252g/km respectively.
No pricing for the car has been announced, but UK buyers should expect to pay around £70,000 for the car. The first deliveries are expected in the autumn."

Remember guys this is still just a pre-production/prototype... and it looks like they rushed it... note the lack of usual Alpina touches in the cabin (rhombs etc) as well as no sound deadening in the engine. I expect the final cars, based on 2011 models, to be rather better finished. IMHO, the car will look a whole heap better in darker colours... e.g. black, dark blue, Alpina Green :)

B5s v B3s

Hi all,
We have been very fortunate in going to Buchloe to collect our Alpina B3s Saloon in white. As we pulled up at the factory we were introduced to the new B5s. This was before the car was even officially anounced, we were sworn to secrecy. What an experiance, the guy's there are so friendly and passionate about their cars. Andreas, our guy we met at airport and our guide for factory said in the 3 years he's been there only 3 british factory collections had occured. We highly reccomend anyone thinking of buying an Alpina to collect their car from the factory.

After taking lots of pictures of B5s, we were shown to our car. We weren't disappointed, our car is simply awesome and as it happens, we have the only one in the UK

I'm going to upload some pictures for fellow enthusiasts to look at in the next couple of days

Congratulations! Please upload pics of the new B5 as well. BTW, I was at the factory a couple of years ago when a new Stratus Grey B6 cabrio was being factory collected by a UK buyer.

Its hard to say, the new car is a bit bigger and has a little more power and needs 3 gears to hit 0-60. Where the old car needs 2 gears and is a bit smaller.
As people say, it depends on which metric you're talking about 0-60 or 60-120 or whatever. Time will tell!

The way the two cars deliver the power is different, the new car feels crisper, smoother and maybe a little quicker... based on my test drive at Goodwood. Its certainly no Slouch and very close to the old car.
