The BMW 3 series coupe and convertible will have a face lift in spring 2010. The new versions will be presented in Geneva (March 2010).
Simultaneously, Alpina will present an upgraded version of the B3 Biturbo.
The main changes will be the engine output, with power increasing from 360 to approximately 400 bhp, and torque going from 500 to approx 550 Nm (exact figures not confirmed by Alpina).
The car could receive a new name, although Alpina did not give further details.
I think it could be:
B3S biturbo
B3 Biturbo S
B3S
I have a personal preference for the latter. It just better fits on the boot :grinyes:
With this increased output, the car's performance should be enhanced by 0,2 sec on the standing 1000 m, and a few km/h in top speed.
By the way, this information came to me because I ... have ordered a B3 Biturbo convertible
Delivery in May 2010. It will replace the Mini cooper S, which is a nice car, but I miss so much an Alpina as daily driver
According to some persons at Alpina, I would be the only owner to concentrate all turbo-based models (and all their problems :hihi
the car should have had these power figures when it first came out, 360 bhp on a twin turbo car from alpina was a bit lame the b10 bt had the same figures 20 years ago, does anyone know if the new model will still come in 4 wheel drive in the cabriolet
I had some additional information from Andy Bovensiepen whom I met in Brussels last month, at the Auto Show.
While there is much debate as to the engine which will equip the E92/E93 facelifts (current engine -N54- with two turbos or new engine -N55- with 1 scroll turbo, as in the 5 serie GT), the answer is that the B3 will keep the N54 engine. Andy's comments were that it was a better basis to get an increased output.
I will get a bit more than 400 bhp, and 550 Nm.
I understand that the exhaust note has been slightly revised for more "presence", although it's not Alpina's intentions to look like a hooligan...
The new LSD available as an option will have a ratio of 30 % in acceleration, and 20 % in decceleration.
Given the torque, Andy said I made the right choice in opting for this LSD, even on a convertible.
I will be in Geneva Auto Show on March 5, where I will get all the detailed information. More to come.
That and the fact that it's a very long name on a very narrow trunk lid. It looks like if they tried writing the whole car description on the back. Maybe B3 would sound a lot better (B3, M3... you kind of get a different name feeling).
Thanks a lot 135 ti! very useful. Some conclusions:
1. the name will be B3S biturbo
2. the new designed classic wheels will be available for 3 series, i.e. in 19".
3. addition of a rear diffuser aka "air extractor", as on the B5S/B6S.
4. LED lights as seen on E92/93 face lift pictures
5. modified rear boot lip ?? (seems a little bit larger)
