i think it's not fair for the B5 having to race against a V8s,it should have been the B5s....

Got to say as an owner of one of the V8s Tourings they are very fast, despatching most things on the road ( some 911 drivers really do not have a clue - " I am sure that my 911 should be able to beat that family estate car/ wagon but somehow even from a standing start I am always away from the lights behind that thing!!" - 911 driver has to re-check his Porsche badge when he gets home) but there is no way I can see it despatching or even keeping up with the B5 or a B5s Touring similar weight but with between 115 and 145 BHP more and sooooo much torque!! that was never going to happen.

However in a real world situation against an off "guard" E60/61 M5 then there may be a closer race until the E60/61 cam kicks in and thus the extra BHP.

I would however like to see a race between a B10 V8 and V8s to see if there is anything in it!! As most B10 V8 owners I talk to tell me there is not much in it but I suspect this is not the case ( especially after talking to an owner who, is not a member of this forum but has owned a B10 V8, V8s and now a B5)

Add a few corners into the race and the result may be a lot closer as from the reports that I am getting and seeing the B5/B5s is faster yes but not more fun and maybe not as good at putting its power down when cornering, without that optional diff, but maybe this is the price of progress. Each evolution of the model seems to remove the driver input more and more.

We shall see.

BTW Gustav should I come to Sweeden I would be happy to supply the B10 V8s Touring

As for father and son I think A.G. means that this was a father and son team driving the cars not that the B5 is the "daddy" because on that I may have to disagree.

The race was what I wrote , a race between father and son
"Senior" was driving his B5 and "Junior" his V8S, so simple was that ....

I dont understand why someone really think

a 350+ hp car and 500nm can keep up with a 500 hp and 700 nm

it is like S62 vs S85

E39 B10 v8 is a fast and quick car,, but way behind the B5

I've not sampled the delights of the B5 yet but I have tried the M5 and have no doubt that it's quicker than the B10, B8, and BT. It was also considerably more detached than those cars and I had no interest in acquiring one!

I thought I'd seen a video shootout (on this board) between a V8 and V8S and, of course, the S was quicker in a straight line. In the real world, on a nice twisty B road, the difference would have more to do with the driver than the additional tweaks of the S.

Exactly the point I was agreeing with.. this was never going to happen.

As for involvement I agree totally

and I was not implying that there is anyway that a V8s would "win" against either a either B5/B5s or E60/61 M5 just that the M5 needs to be "on cam " to deliver it's best as you would expect from an M5 engine it has always been a characteristic of the M5 which is no bad thing.
