Thanks Emmanuel for your detailed explanation. This is 100% in line with the information I have received from Buchloe regarding headgasket material, larger cylinder diameter for E39 M5 headgasket, possible (non-) effects on the 0.5mm edge not covered by the headgasket and same tightening torque.

whereby it does not concern the ALPINA Z8 any longer, since it was built after 2001 and starting from this year of construction the metallic seal was blocked.

I'm reading all this information with much interest , as my '97 B8 has the original HG's and although the car seems to be running very sweetly at momo , I can understand that something may change .
But , has anyone had their HG's replaced recently , can give me any idea of the cost incurred by the procedure .
I heard around Eur 2500.00 , which compared to cost of new engine is obviously cheaper , but did quite scare me , as I'm more used to the bills from a 6cyl car .

Have a search on the forum. It's been discussed before.

I had my Coupe's HG replaced a couple of years ago and if I remember well Alpina charged me around €4,000. I was in Buchloe yesterday to drop off my Cabrio for the same treatment (amongst other things), and will be able to tell you in a few weeks what the current going rate is.
There is no question you can get another place to do it for less, but I didn't want anyone else doing the delicate job on my cars.
An independent in Germany can do a HG job on the B8 for around €1500 is what I heard. I am planning to take my Cabrio to Buchloe as well for the treatment.

I am pushing them to have the car ready for 24th April so that we can meet up in Buchloe as planned. There is a lot of work that needs to be done but I am hopeful that they will be able to finish everything (mechanical/electrical, interior, paint) in the 7 weeks the car will be there.
Mr. Geier showed me the list, respect my dear one.
