Sorry to hear that - if it wasn't so darn new I would love to jump at it. Needs to be 15 years old to be allowed here sadly
Yes I read about this import exclusion "ensuring the safety of Canadians" (CMVSS). At least it has not yet reached 25 years as I believe it was proposed at one point.
Could you not buy & import the car, and simply not register/plate it until it's 15 years old? Then you could have something great to look forward too...
Gawd I wish. No, the government is very strict on that. If the car is not 15 years old to the month or if the car is younger than that but not compliant with N/A regs - it is not allowed to touch Canadian soil. That is how it has been explained to me by the customs officers. The choice then is to either ship it elsewhere or it gets crushed - and believe me, they do crush cars. I have heard of a few people who had some very tricked out skylines that got turned into a cube of metal...
I would not want to take that chance with an Alpina - especially one as rare and wonderful as this. There may be another loop hole that I am investigating - but I am doubtful that it will work...

What does it actually cost to ship a car from Europe to North-America? Anyone tried it before?
Yes, my car was shipped from Germany to Canada. Its about $1500 to $2000 CAD on a roll on roll off ship from Bremerhaven, Germany to Halifax, Canada. Once in Canada, it has to be driven, trucked or put on a rail car.
I put mine on a rail car as Halifax is 6,000 km from Vancouver!
