After seeing this thread I check my rotors and they look way toast. I guess I will be needing some too. Are the OEM Alpina rotors different than the BMW (e38) ones or just another case of rebranding?

They're different...the E38 didn't exist when the B10 BiTurbo was launched.

I can't remember exactly which part needed to be machined. I paid USD $82 each disc from BMA AutoParts. If you find a better deal, let us know.
I ordered a set and I will test fit them to check to see how they fit and what machining is required. I'm hoping its just a simple matter of removing 1 mm from each face of the rotor. I'll report back later with my results.

I found them for $85 CAD ea from a local supplier.

Sometimes I forget how early this car was engineered, plus better doublecheck my posts after a few Coronas.

All bt owners that i know all put their cars through its paces, the car was not made to be driven like a pensioner so anybody who says they dont push their bt then they are in the wrong car, im not saying drive it like a boy racer, But ask yourself why you bought this car and why most of us still have them, the answr should bring a smile to your face, BTW THE CAR WAS MADE PERFECT BUT THE BRAKE TECHNOLOGY HAS MOVED WAY FORWARD AND AS YOU ALL KNOW THE BTS BRAKES ARE NOT UP TO THE TASK, BUT HEY EACH TO THEIR OWN
Rojer – With the Porsche, Movit, Ap Racing and Kad Engineering setups what were the pros/cons that made you go with the Kad Engineering setup?

here is your answer, the kad calipers and ap calipers are manufactured by the same company, the disks kad uses are ap disks but kad does something to the disks which make them better than the ap disks, las of all they are much cheaper and the service you get at kad you will not get at ap, kad is a small buisnesss run by colin and his dad and they also build race minis and small steam engines for companies all over the world they are excellent engineers and you dont find many like that in the uk, they will give your car individual attention to make whatever they are doing to perfection, you will not get that at ap or movit, i carefully looked in to all the companies and was not worried about cost as i wanted good brakes, a friend of mine has movit on his m5 and i was not impressed, so hope that answers it for you, ps the disks i have on the car have now been on for four years and they have been made to go blue many times with extreme braking and they are still going strong...

Hey Folks, it´s been a long time that i haven´t been to the M5board. HAd to work a lot.

Some news that might be interesting to you guys.

Aftermarket 740d Sport-Discs from Zimmermann do fit pretty well, without maching the calipers. S600 Pads from EBC do fit also. But none of the mentioned wear sensors work. I tried nearly 15 sensors.

Will investigate further
