I won't take credit - it was posted on the Big Coupe board. I just reposted it here. A friend who is more knowledgeable than me seems to doubt its authenticity. Caveat emptor.

BTW, did I hear that yours is up for sale, or is someone mistaken?

Looks like it's been modified since then. I kind of like the way it looked before...

It's not even an original Alpina dashboard plaque...I don't believe Alpina mounted plaques in the 2002 as they offered tuning parts and not full Alpina builds. However in either case it's the wrong type of layout for that era...the plaque mounted in this car only started to be used by Alpina in the early 80's.

Alpina plaques never existed on such cars. I even think they did not exist on the early E21 C1 323i based cars.

Putting an Alpina plaque on a BMW 2002 is just a kind of "it is a genuine Alpina and the plaque tells it" argument. Too much IMHO. Same thing as owners putting Alpina stickers or badges everywhere on old cars to "prove" thay are genuine Buchloe items (i.e. replacing BMW roundels or Alpina emblems on the valence).

I do not know at all the true story of this car but the link provided seems to indicate it has been an interesting car modified during the 70's (which is already a good point). However, a butterfly injection, Alpina wheels and other goodies apparently have been sold a couple of years ago. This is the first thing the new owner will definitely have to focus on... Finding such parts to put the car back to original will not be easy but it will not be impossible.
