I see the same info too and yet I have to wonder that the tire manufacturer Michelin says that max pressure is 50psi on the tires themselves. I think they are talking about extended periods of high speed driving like on a track. Unless you plan to be exceeding 100mph regularly for extended periods I would be at 36. Ill look more into this too and see if we can get an explanation. The one thing I would not do is exceed the tire manufacturers max psi.

The info I get back is that of course the 50psi limit is cold too so when the tires heat up any expansion will still be within their safety limit. The 49psi rating is really one for track use and also "personal preference". So IMHO unless youre doing heavy duty tracking of the car or extended periods of in excess of 100MPH driving- like doing 150 all day long on the autobahn, I would leave it at the 36. The tire sidewalls are so narrow on these though that I would be sure to check the tire pressure often and especially if you are in an area with temperature change.
