Alpina B10 3.5 (E23)

Hi all !

Yesterday I saw an E23 parked in front of my house. I couldn't resist and I went to have a look at it . Wow, really nice to have about 20 years old. Leather everywhere, 4 speed manual box, steereo, electric & heated seats etc... It was debbaged so I don't know what model it was. I think it was the 745i.

I was wondering about the E23s Alpina produced. I have never seen any of those, seems like they are pretty rare. Does anyone here owned one of those ? Which one is faster the 745i or the B10 ?

Belive me, the E23s are very very nice....

The E23 B10s were only ever produced for the UK market, as the 745i could not be built in RHD form. Therefore Alpina had a niche in the market it could fill.

Alpina did however supply turbo boost upgrade kits for the 745i.

If the car you saw was LHD, it would have been a 745i...

I think it must be a sickness for old BMWs but I run an E23 everyday. Every time I change my daily driver it seems to get older!

I have a 735i which is a one owner car and great. I have been looking for an E23 B10 and never been able to find one. I think they were rare and like most E23s got used for big mileages and then drifted into the land of the unwanted luxobarge. I am on the trail of a
an E32 B10 locally but I am not sure if it will be just what I am after!

whats more, only 23 genuine cars were produced by Sytners in the UK, which makes it incredibly rare. And they were all manual, but I expect at least half have gone to the old yard in the sky.
You did get a similar version for the US in CKD style, to be converted by a recognised US dealer etc. But again due to the cost, it was a very limited supply.

It surprises me that they were all manual as the B10 E28 seems to have been very popular as an auto.

It is amazing how well E23s can handle with a bit of suspension fettling and a LSD.

I too, have been searching for the long lost E23 B10, but to no avail (except some time ago, one advertised in Scotland for approx £750.00, but couldn't get there, and it went).
Interesting about the E32, where-abouts is that one, I have found a rather nice one for sale down here on the S/East coast for around £5500. one family owner etc, for sale at a dealer.

I'm pretty sure the E32 Alpina's were only numbered B11 3.5 and B12. The B10 was used for E28, E23, E24 & E34 cars...

Auto E23 Alpinas

There was a least one auto Alpina E23 B10. I saw one for sale in the UK. It was dark blue and a genuine one. I'm not sure if E23s went to the US in CKD form but, Alpina made a few themselves (as oppossed to Sytner) and a friend of mine in the US has a B9 3.5 E23 - a genuine car, comfirmed by Alpina.
