WOW!!! Absolutely beautiful.

Where were you able to find those wheel centers? I can not say that I have ever seen that carb/crank combo used on the wheel centers before.

@ Turbobrook,
Mitch, I do not forget you and please do not think you won't get infos from me ! I first need to have a look at my ZF gearbox documentation and I will let you know ratios etc... As well, I will let you know possible rear end ratios I think to remember there were "officially" two possible ZF gearboxes for the Alpina CSL (please note : we are speaking here about a street car) and there were accordingly two possible rear end ratios... Please give me some time and I will get back to you on this

@Alpinacsi,
You have never seen those wheel caps before ?... You have never seen this carb/crank combo before ? ah... ah... ah... This is not really a surprise to me because those wheel caps are from... 1971 Those wheel caps are the correct ones for this car and have been produced till the mid-seventies (around 1975). Then, with the new A4-S engines and butterfly injection systems, the Alpina logo has been "updated" with injection trumpets replacing the "old" carburettor; This is the whole story

The only "modern" part where you still find the "old" Alpina logo today is the horn button. As a matter of fact, the carb/crank combo still is present on this item.

Unfortunately, people on (very) old Alpina cars like mine do put the "modern" injection trumpets wheel caps... On the other hand, I cannot blame them because those parts (original) are impossible to find

Yannick, I have to say that I have seen that logo before in pics but never in actual use on wheels.

Also, the horn button uses another different logo: old style carbs and camshaft. That is unless you buy one from ebay and then it is like the current logo and not an Alpina part.

I would be happy to find new wheel centers in the correct style for my B9. I can only seem to find the new style with the outer silver ring.

Todd,

You are right and I should have explained with more accuracy the "old" style Alpina logo. There were, in fact, two types of "old" logos (speaking about the "old" logo simply means speaking about the logo before the injection trumpet logo). Very first and early logo (Alpina early days till 1970) had a carb/camshaft combo logo with (and you are right) a kind of very simple / simplified carburettor on it. This is indeed the type of logo one can find on the horn button model, also to be found on eBay from time to time. Then came the 2nd logo type (same one as on my wheels), a carb/crankshaft combo that did appear early 70's (till 1975 - 1976 around)... and was finally replaced by the injection trumpets logo (here, as well different types !) we all know today.

Regarding correct wheel centers for your B9 (which production year BTW your B9 is ?!) I still have 4 new NOS wheel caps (metal centers) with injection trumpets logo that could be the ones you need ?! They were probably also used on other Alpina models but could be the ones you are desperately looking for ?! Please confirm and/or let me exactly know the kind of center you are thinking about. Thx

Yannick,

Thanks for the explanation. My B9 is from 1985 and has the plastic centers; I will see if I can get a picture when I return on Monday. I have ca collection of the correct centers that I have bought and sorted through to find the best ones but they are not in the best condition. The replacements from Alpina are slightly different and I would prefer to use my old ones before I use the new replacements.
