Alpina CSL questions for Yannick

Yannick,

I have an Alpina ZF close ratio five speed and an Alpina final drive I am working installing on my 72 CSL. I've noticed that your cooler for the final drive is installed on the passenger side in your photos. I was wondering if the next time you see the car you could take some detailed photos of the mounting location so I can mount mine like yours? Also, I was wondering what final drive ratio you're using and what ratios your ZF has.

The mounting brackets for my ZF transmission have been lost and it mounts quite differently than the Getrag. I was hoping you could provide some detailed photos of the mounting set up of thje ZF five speed to the underside of your car, i.e. brackets for the transmission as well as the cross member that attaches to the body. The more detailed the photos the better since I will have to fabricate these pieces based on photos alone.

My ZF tranny came out of a race car and a transmission cooler pump was installed where the speedometer gear usually attaches. I am looking for the attachements to convert this back to a speedometer. The speedo gears bolts right in to the same hole as the cooler gear. Do you know anyone that might have this attachment? Photos of your transmission show you have a 90 degree attachment to acceppt your speedo cable and I would like to have this same set up since my car will be used on the street not the track.

Yannick, any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. I own two other Alpina cars, a E12 B7 turbo and an E28 B7 turbo so I am always hunting for rare Apina parts to augment my collection of spares. Thanks

Mitch in HB

Lots of business trips and professional commitments right now Unfortunately very few time left for cars As of next week, things should clearly improve as no trip is planned (so far...). I hope I will have some time to accordingly answer and upload pictures. Cheers,
Yannick.

Group,,

This is a new update. I am a bit late but I had tons of business trips and commitments and could not make it before. Unfortunately, the pics are not as good as usual... It was late afternoon (already dark) and I had not much possibilities to move the car at the right place in the garage.

Regarding the project itself, I unfortunately had to go through some (kind of) bad news as it appears the Alpina split-rims wheel nuts got lost... Problem is they are very special. Only solution for me : have wheel nuts re-manufactured (I fortunately still have two original wheel nuts at home that I will use as model). This will cost some time. I will start driving the car with stock CSL 7x14 wheels (which are Alpinas as well) but these must be re-spayed (I could not drive a car in this condition with dirty wheels) prior to be installed.

On top of that (and this is a kind a big disappointment), I also had to understand the Alpina front spoiler I have for this car - should be a genuine and original part - unfortunately does not properly fit... It means this front spoiler will need to be rather seriously modified in order to get a ”new” one that will perfectly fit. When done, I will make a new form out of the “new” front spoiler and keep it in my garage !!! Here as well, it will cost time and I will start without front spoiler...

Last point (less important), the Alpina AirBox as well as other parts (head cover etc...) were unfortunately not back from the paint shop when I shot the pictures. Well, we also have some (really) minor points e.g. the screws for the VDO panel instruments (on the dashboard) also got lost and the current ones are too big... but this will be changed at some point and is not that much important.

If we except all those points, the car is really superb and the work (level of detail and accuracy) done by my mechanic is absolutely stunning.

I will also try to upload a video of the running engine (I did two) on YouTube and share it here as well.
Cheers,
Yannick.
