My father has the s8 , i really like for long travelling , it has a huge room for luggage , a lot of space for all passengers , good for winter. And no stock 7-series or S-class can touch it went it comes to performance. With the manual gearbox. But i have driven the manual version of my friend who lives in france , my father's car is a tiptronic . What a shame , i really don't understand pepole with auto gearboxes , ok if you drive a chevy truck , chrysler van or especially a mercedes (hehe) you won't enjoy the ride anyway, so you can go for auto trans. But manual gearbox gives you full control , more fun and better performance.S8 with man trans really is the shi*. I haven't driven the RS4 , but i have been riding in well-tuned S4 limo.It had around 360 horses , and better aerodynamics than the avant so i guess the performance could be similar. We eaten a fat merc SL600 like an apetizer , the old fat guy in that car was shocked but you know that this car is less than nothing , and unfortunately there weren't any fast cars to match at the time. But the car is a real blast , especially in the first 2 gears it's quicker than bmws because of no traction problems , but i think that big engined bmw still wouldn't have problem with that. I mean any new m5 or the alpinas should teach it a lesson. The E36 M3 is similar i think , maybe even slower.I'm talking about the euro version with 321 ponies , i don't know who came to a "brillant" idea of giving m3 less power for the us.For the cars reason i think that living in europe is better , hehe.
