Tragic M5 accident in TX
There was a tragic car accident involving a M5 that occurred this weekend. I hope it is not anyone on this board.
Kenneth
A Helotes-area woman, her brother-in-law and a friend from South Dakota were killed early Friday after the car in which they were traveling crashed and caught fire on Texas 16 about three miles north of Helotes.
The driver of the four-door 2002 BMW M5, who was the husband of the woman and the only survivor of the accident, was pulled from the vehicle by a passerby and taken by helicopter to University Hospital, said Sgt. Steve Amerson with the traffic safety unit of the Bexar County Sheriff's Department.
The fire prevented the rescue of the car's other occupants, he said.
They were xxx xxxxx of Helotes Spring Road, xxxx xxxxx of San Antonio, and xxxx xxxx of Sturgis, S.D. All were in their early 30s, Amerson said.
xxx xxxxx, 31, was treated and released from University Hospital on Friday afternoon.
xxxxxx family members could not be reached for comment.
Gary Biggs, investigator with the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office, said dental records were needed to verify the identity of the three passengers who died in the fiery crash.
The car was headed north in the 17400 block of Texas 16 at about 2:45 a.m. Friday when the driver lost control, Amerson said.
Excessive speed in a 65-mph zone and alcohol may have played a role in the accident, Amerson said.
Amerson said the stretch of Texas 16 where the accident occurred is not considered dangerous. The site of the crash is just north of Ranch Parkway and a few miles south of Helotes Spring Road.
