Coupe and two doors are terms that I get confused. Then you have the term Hard Top Coupe, meaning B-pillarless coupe...
Looking at other models of BMWs, say the 7 series, you can see a the family genes, an evolution if you will. The E23->E32->E38. (OK the E60 ruins this theory, dam Bangle....) They look alike and have "grown". If you park a 635 and a 850 besides each other you can't really say that they are father and son as you can with the 7, 5 or even 3 series.
