The more I try to find out about my car, the less I know about it...
The guy I bought it from was the 2nd owner. Here's what he told me:
1) It started as a US 633.
2) It had the engine from a 745 dropped in.
3) The interior had been replaced with Euro dash and instruments, and it also got M6 seats.
4) It had 290 HP.
Here's what I know:
1) It's registered as a 633, which makes sense because the US didn't get a 635 in 1983.
2) It's not the 745's M102 engine, but rather a 3.5 with an aftermarket turbo kit.
3) Everything in the cockpit (warning lights, trip computer, etc.) is in German. That and the fact that it doesn't have the US bumpers leads me to believe that it may have had more of a Euro conversion than just the inside... And the seats are awesome.
4) I haven't had it dynoed, but I believe the 290 figure. I've driven a couple of cars with similar power/weight (Acura NSX, 911 Turbo (965)), and 290 is in the right neighborhood. I've also been in highway races that confirm that general figure.
Things I don't know:
1) Who did the turbo kit. I know it wasn't Hartge; that's all.
2) Whether it actually started in the US or came from Germany as a 635, and it's just registered as a 633 for insurance purposes. As an interesting side note, I tried to register it with BMW NA's Owner's Circle, and they didn't recognize my VIN #, which according to their site assistance, means that it wasn't bought in the US.
3) How much power it actually has.
As far as how quick it is, I'll just say that it's boosted -considerably-, goes like hell, does 110ish in 3rd and that I've never topped out 4th or 5th. In other words, it's fun! Really fun.
If you guys have any insight on how I might be able to find out more about it, I'd love to hear what you have to say.
