Here in the UK we have two lettering systems in use. The old one (until Sept 2001) comprised L NNN LLL where L is a letter and N a number; they changed annually so 1986=D NNN LLL, 1987=E NNN LLL etc.
There are plenty of M5 combinations around, eg. M5 BMW, M400 BHP, etc.
Now they've introduced a totally daft system comprising LL NN LLL which has regional and date components. Thus, we get desperate individuals making up things like AM51CED which is rearranged to look like A M5 ICED (actually saw this on an M5).
