I don't know. The cloud was dust from the runoff area I think. I'm not sure if he had some sort of mechanical problem at the last second - cuz he was certainly going pretty good - or if he was pushing too hard seeing us gaining on him and simply didn't get his braking done in time. If that was the case he did the smart thing, which was to go off straight where there was room rather than risk damage by trying to make the turn.
