Jim,
I'm anxious to hear about your adventure (re: updating your 2000 sound system with the 2001 M-Audio rear subwoofers). What is the Part No. for them? Is the amplifier different? What about crossovers and other different hardware? Are you planning on changing your front speakers to the 2001 coaxial units? I also believe that the tweeters are different (either in terms of their performance and/or material) -- are you planning on changing them too? I wonder what the cost would be to completely update the stereo system to 2001 M-Audio spec. I also wonder if for similar money, a superior aftermarket solution could be devised (although nothing beats the tonal and accoustical balance that can be achieved by a manufacturer such as BMW, who has virtually unlimited resources (if they so desire to marshall) to develop and optimize a refined audio solution within the confines of the car's interior environment).

I think you are right. Particularly about the very weak sub woofers. I am planning on having mine replaced with the 2001 sub woofers. I hear that they are a great improvement over the 2000 models.
Has anyone heard the difference between the 2000 and the 2001 sub woofers for comparison?
