You're absolutely right
you can click the little button on the end of the idicator stalk to clear the check messages on the HUD and dash but even that was too much for me
I press that button more than enough when I've got 1/4 tank of fuel left and it's warning me to fill up and covers the bottom line of the iDrive so I cannot see the time
(we can choose how long to keep our coming home lights on but cannot set how many miles remaining before our fuel alert chimes in, I know which I'd prefer to be able to set).
