I picked up my SMG today and put about 170 miles on it. I can say that there is absolutely no need to worry about low speed maneuvering. The clutch operation is every bit as good as I could do after driving them for ~12 years. I had a ton of practice as I was stuck in a stop and go traffic jam for almost an hour. I just stuck it in A4 after a while and let it do the constant 1-2-1-2 shifting. The other thing that’s nice is that in 1st gear it will not disengage the clutch until the last possible moment ~1000rpm so you don’t even need the brakes unless you need a complete stop.
I didn’t get a chance to use mode 6 (forbidden by break in rules) but I did much of the driving in mode 5. The shifts are very smooth in your daily rpm range 2-4k. In the 4-5 range they start to become “jarring”. I assume that above that they are even more violent but again thanks to break in rules no chance to test.
Another great function often overlooked is the gradient assist for hill starts. Works great with near zero rollback.
If you want I can put up SMG interior IR/IR pics soon.
