M5 TRACK DAY at SEARS PT. Aug. 15, 2002 deposit due now, limited to 24 drivers

M5 TRACK DAY at SEARS PT. August 15, 2002.
$400 DEPOSIT DUE NOW! Limited to 20 Drivers

M5 Extravaganza 2002 will kick off with M5 Track Day at Sears Pt. International Raceway (SPIR) in Sonoma, California on Thursday, August 15, 2002. This is again the Thursday before Concours Weekend in Monterey. This may seem like a long time off but Sears Pt. is already heavily booked for 2002 and the payment to Russell Racing and Sears Pt. is due. I will make the payment, but I need to be reimbursed soon by the 20 participating M5 drivers.. Sears Pt. is currently undergoing a complete remodeling which will be finished this Spring, so the track, paddock and facilities will all be brand new. This year promises to be an even better event than last year which was SUPER. This year there will only be 20 spots (last year there were 24) for this event and the price and program will be similar to last year.
For those of you who didn’t attend last year, the program goes something like this: We will get a block of rooms for the Wednesday night before the event. Last year we stayed at the Embassy Suites in Napa and it worked out very well. Everyone got together for dinner Wed. night to get acquainted and get ready for the big fun on Thursday. M5 Track Day timeline: 7am: Arrive at Sears Pt. for registration, tire check, etc. 8am: Drivers meeting and class with the Russell Racing Team. There will be 10 professional instructors assisting us all day. 9am: Warm-ups, auto-cross, handling oval, learning the track. Lots of driving. 12 Noon: A catered lunch with a guest speaker. Last year’s speaker was Steve Dinan. 1PM: On the full track all afternoon. Typically 10 people drive for a half hour, then the next 10 drive for a half hour. Instructors will ride with you to give you whatever type of instruction or help you desire. It’s a lot of driving. 4:30pm: Wrap-up in Driver’s Lounge, awards, rest, etc. 5:30-6pm: The M5 Caravan heads down the Coast to Monterey for the big weekend which includes the Concorso Italiano in Carmel, the Historics Races at Laguna Seca, the Concours d’Elegance at Pebble Beach, and our 2nd Annual M5 Extravaganza Banquet. Monterey is THE place to be on the Planet for that weekend. The details for the Wednesday night hotel and all Monterey activities will follow. There is more time to discuss and finalize the full M5 Extavaganza agenda (suggestions welcome), but Sears Pt. needs to be taken care of now.
The price of the M5 Track Day at Sears Pt. for 2002 will be $700 (last year was $695). The first 20 M5 owners who send in a $400 deposit will be the participants in this event. You must be driving an M5 (any year) and only one driver is allowed per car. Spectators are welcome all day.The remaining $300 will be due on March 15, five months before the event and confirmations will be issued then. This event needs to be prepaid and last year I had my own money out for too long. After the first 20 people are set, I will start a waiting list, and when someone wants to cancel, I will replace them from the waiting list, and then refund their money. Last year, 6 of the original 24 cancelled, they were replaced from the waiting list and then their money was refunded. Three others cancelled within the last week and two of them lost their deposit because waiting list people had by then made other plans.. If you need to cancel, there should be no problem up until August, but your money is not refunded by me until I can replace you.
The new Sears Pt. Track is going to be awesome and on August 15 we will take over the whole place. If you want a spot, send in your $400 deposit NOW!
DEPOSITS CAN BE SENT via Paypal.com to pp2000@pacbell.net or
by Cashier’s Check mailed to: Paul Preston PO Box 848 Kentfield, CA 94914
