Parkerfe,
God Bless it. I love it. I was married there (New Orleans). Each year for several years in a row I've practiced my zydeco dancing at the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival. But let's face it, Louisiana is...different. I can't imagine a Georgia law enforcement official, on or off duty, leading a caravan of citizens down Georgia's federal and state highways at ultra illegal speeds. It would be, or course, irresponsible.
When I turned 40 (too long ago, I'm afraid), I treated myself to a new 911. One early Saturday morning, the local chapter of the Porsche Club of America sponsored a drive from Atlanta to Road Atlanta that ended with an opportunity to drive around the Road Atlanta circuit. About 40 of us had a police escort from our point of assembly onto and around the north perimeter freeway and then onto I-85. The police escort waved us goodbye at that point and we were on our way. 60 mph soon gave way to speeds well over 100 mph with Porsches drafting, and passing each other each other as speeds were attained that made some of us uncomfortable in a wolf pack like that. Bear in mind, that even at 7:00 AM there are still non-participants trolling along out there, in those days going 55 mph. There were many opportunities for sudden, high speed, panic braking. It was chaos. I saw several Porsches spinning out in the grass median before I lucked upon an exit and a safe way to get to the rear of the pack.
I don't want to do that again.
