Two BMW M5 E60 and two BMW 850 CSi are on the way to Koenigsegg facilities.

The 850 CSi closest is actually a Hartge H8, am 850 CSi with a 6,0 liter engine upgrade instead of the standard 5,6 liter engine. The engine will in Hartge form produce 430 HP with 6110 Nm with a top speed of  over 300 km/h.

A BMW M635CSi follows the BMW M6.

Following the BMW 3,0 CSL from the BMW M5 E28.

From behind: BMW M635 CSi, BMW 3,0 CSL "Batmobile", BMW M5 E28 (286 HP) and finally a Hartge BMW M5 E60 in Silverstone II.

Here we have the interiour of the Koenigsegg CC-R. When we arrived to Koenigsegg in the BMW M5 in May 2005 we got an excellent tour about the factory which you can read about below by clicking on the picture below or this link.

BMW M635 CSi, BMW 3,0 CSL, BMW M5 E28, BMW M5 and some of the competition: Porsche 911 Turbo and Porsche 911 GT3 (996 mkI generation).

Christian von Koenigsegg enjoyed the BMW M6 and thought the SMGIII gearbox was better than the Ferrari sequential gearbox.

Christian inspecting the carbon roof of the BMW M6. The Koenigsegg salesmanager Patrick approved the BMW M6 roof, confirming that it was very high-quality  workmanship. The people at Koenigsegg should know: practically the whole Koenigsegg CC-R is made out of carbon, and Christian ordered that even the inner lerather clad interiour handles should be made of solid carbon, see below.

After Christian testdrove the BMW M6 he later showed up in his own carbrand, the world's fastets production car in the world today, the Koenigsegg CC-R. Christian von Koenigsegg have now launched the Koenigsegg CCX, now streetlegal for the United States. See more info on Koenigsegg.com and tell them that you read it on m5board.com.

However we had bad luck since it was a customers car and he could of course not race that. But the BMW M6 would have a hard time versus 806 HP and lesser weight...

With some fresh fuel in the tanks, sunny cold new morning and a thirsty M Power V-10 we're ready to take on the compeition. The airfields next to the Koenigsegg facilities on an airfield, restricted for the public and where we can reach 272 km/h or 160+ mph all day long are perfect for this.

Could that be an unmarked policecar? In anycase, it would not matter since we always obey speedlimits.

Above is the Koenigsegg airfield, and in the far distance you can spot one BMW M6 and two BMW M5. The buildings in the distance is the Koenigsegg factory.

Audi's and Vipers...

Here we are meeting up the day before with some of the friends that weill be joining us on the airfield: Audi S8, RS4, Dodge Viper...

...and one more RS4, this time very tuned.

More cars were a 2000 and 2003 BMW M5 E39, a tuned Toyora Supra, 1995 BMW M5 Touring and a Subaru Impreza WRX STi.

And a tuned blue Audi RS2 as well. Full moon as well...

Fueling up on the way down south...

...as well as Mercedes SL55 AMG and supersportbikes

The competition heats up... A slightly tuned Mercedes SL55 AMG and a Suzuki GSX-R 1000 supersportsbike. One of them can really outaccelerate the BMW M6...

Three silver bullets... I know which one I would choose, esp. at +5 degrees Celsius.

The Mercedes SL55 AMG was actually the car that got most attention by ordinary people, what you in Sweden call "Svensson".

Restraint... Show restraint. The M6 will do 272 km/h on the speedometer until we hit the self inflicted limiter and a SL55 AMG behind you on perfect highways. But when the limit is 110 km/h and you will loose it for one month over 140 km/h and add one month to every 10 km/h increments. If you lost the license four times before you don't want to loose it again.

As well as a tough competitor: the 550 HP Porsche 911 Turbo based Ruf Automobile 911 Turbo R

Here we meet up a Porsche 911 Turbo (996) that has it's engine tuned by Ruf Automobile, on of the best tuners there are in the world for Porsche.

These exhausts are not standard... I'm thankful that he have the Ruf R Turbo logo on the car and that the owner were honest and telling us that this Porsche was not at all standard... 550 HP and 780 Nm at 4000 rpm.

Onlookers  (the girls) commented "Nice car " to me but not to the Ruf 911 Turbo R...

Two very powerful cars yet very different. Already before the event at the airfield I got the chance to testdrive the Ruf Turbo R and I was impressed by the stability of the car, and it charismatic 911 feeling is still there, with  the engine behind you. The torque was lower down and the car did not rev to anywhere near where the M6 reaches it's limit at 8300 rpm. Of course the Ruf Turbo R is a better sportscar but not as comfortable as the BMW M6.

The results so far

The races below took place with shiftmode S5 and MDM active ("DSC light").

Audi RS4 (Yellow) 2001.

Tuned by ACE Competition with over 500 HP and over 600 Nm.  The owner stated below:

"Everything is built by ACE Competition in Sweden. I don't know exactly how much power is in the engine, but it sholuld be 500+ hp."

The parts changed on the RS4 are above...

We raced several times, and starting on second gear at around 80 km/h the tuned RS4 got the jump and when finishing 3rd gear at around 160-170 km/h the cars where even and at over 170 km/h at 4th gear the BMW M6 passed the RS4 fast, and leaving it with alot of carlengts after 220 km/h up to say around 240-250 km/h.

Audi RS4 (Silver)

This RS4 has smaller engine tuning than the yellow RS4, so we manage to beat that as well.

BMW M5 E39

Starting from 50 km/h the E39 M5 could get a small jump up to a little over 100 km/h, but before 150 km/h the BMW M6 has passed the 400 HP V8 E39 M5 and after that there is no contest,, the M5 leaves it like it is standing still. So again, it is really at 4th gear the M6 really leaves cars behind.

Toyota MKIV BPU+ (Basic Performance Upgrade +) 1994.

Starting from 100 km/h the M6 is pretty even to the tuned Supra until the end of 4th gear, around 200 km/h. As with the others, the M6 will really leave the competitors behind at higher speeds, around and over 200 km/h.

The tuning on the Audi RS4 is stated below:

"450-480 HP with 600-650 Nm. 19’ wheels Racing-Hart CR black crome, front 8,5" 235/40-19. Rear10" 295/30-19 with Michelin Pilot Sport. The tuning consists of: Rod Millen downpipe, HKS hyper TI exhaust, Apexi AVC-R boost controler, Apexi air filter, Intercooler with double as large area as standard, Greddy BCC."

The owner was quoted on a local Swedish forum below, which is translated:

"You loose when you shift since the M6 is shifting insanely fast, and also it is very fast above 200 km/h."

"It was like competing against an electric car, you didn't notice that it shifted, it was just floating on while yourself was pushed backward everytime you shifted."

“Man tappar i växlingarna då M6an växlar så sjukt snabbt, sedan är den väldigt snabb över 200.” Visst märktes det när man körde mot den... det var som att köra mot en elbil, märktes ju inte att den växlade den vara flöt på medans man själv hoppade bak en bit varje gång man växlade.

Audi RS2

"The BMW M6 is a sick unmodified car! Went like a cannonball after 150 km/h and then you couldn't do anything, but below 150 km/h it was more fiun :)"

"Kan bara instämma att M6 är en sjuk org. bil! Gick som skott efter 150km/h då hade man inte mycket att säga till om men var glad innan 150km/h....;)"

BMW M5 2000

The tuned Audi RS2 driver was quoted: "It was nice to see the M6 in action. Many nice cars was it as wel, but not many was standard :) I thought I did pretty good against you until you hit 4th gear and took off pretty good :)"

Det var kul att se M6:an live och i action. Många fina bilar fanns det också, det var inte många som var original :) Tyckte att jag gjorde rätt bra ifrån mig mot dig tills jag satte in 4:an och du stack iväg rätt duktigt :)

Dodge Viper with aftermarket headers and exhaust

This car we lost to below 4th gear (around 220 km/h) and when when we started gaining he stopped accelerating. So this V-10 powered car was surprisingly fast, outrunning the M6.

Porsche 911 Turbo

We compared the BMW M6 to a 911 Turbo (996) and the driver and owner of the car was also amazed. Below is his quote:

"The car is totally wonderful, but the gearbox is truly outstanding. In the fastest mode in throws in the gears, I have never felt such a feeling and I have experienced alot."

Bilen är helt underbar, men växellådan är verkligen outstanding. I snabbaste läget så fullkomligen kastar den i växlarna, en sådan känsla har jag aldrig upplevt och då har jag kört en hel del bilar

Suzuki GSX-R 1000

Sadly we tried (mistakenly) in P400 mode versus the superbike. But the Mercedes SL55 AMG we raced against also raced against the bike, and we later raced the SL55 AMG and won. But racing from 160 km/h with the Suzuki GSX-R 1000 the SL55 AMG lost badly, and the superbike walked away. So if you should have any chance at all against a superbike of that caliber you should race over 250 km/h.

So if you want to take on a superbike we are tlking that your car is a Porsche Carrera GT or similar, see below for acceleration results.

Merdes SL55 AMG

The 500 HP SL55 AMG had some parts on its compressor changed, different catalysts and different air intake, so the car was not completely standard. However it was a close race. This was not your standard SL55 AMG, and between 150 km/h and 240 km/h the M6 was ahead by maybe one carlength. But eventhough it was close, there is only one winner.

  Ruf 911 (996) Turbo R 550 HP

Driving down from Stockholm to the Koenigsegg airfield in soutern Sweden demanded focus on the speedlimits, obeying them meticiously since these cars do attract attention.

The two predecessors to the BMW M5, two BMW 850 CSi and one of the tuned by Hartge to over 6 liters in capacity and over 400 HP. to the right the Porsche.

Finally arriving at the Koenigsegg airstrip with all the cars

Christian von Koenigsegg also enjoys BMW, especially BMW M cars as you might notice on the picture.

Not so surprising we lost against the 550 HP Ruf 996 Turbo R.  However it was not by that much we thought, we lost the most between 160 km/h and 220 km/h where we lost around four car lengths. We did several races and the Ruf Turbo R was fastest all the times, not surprisingly. However the Ruf Turbo R is definetly not a standard car, it is a heavily modified Porsche 911 Turbo.

BMW M5 E60 V-10

We also tried against the BMW M5. We noticed that the acceleration is different when using the same settings on the car but only changed the damper hardness settings, the EDC (Electronic Damper Control). The harder the setting, the faster the acceleration was.  Just like if you are on a bicycle: if it has dampers it is more difficult to bike fast than if it not has dampers. More power will be absorbed in the shocks, which makes it more difficult to bike.

Flooring it and it seems like that the BMW M5 got a better start. We started flooring it at the cone, and had a rolling start. But even of the BMW M5 got the head start the BMW M6 creeped up behind and overtook the M5 at all times we raced. The BMW M6 is slightly faster thanks to marginally lower weight, ligher wheels, other weight distribution and slighty less frontal area.

We had very good luck with the weather, and we had a great time.

The sensors on the brake calipers worked great and sensed that the front brake pads where on it's last legs.

The consumption is as always around 2 liters per 10 km.
